With the securitization of the town charter by Emperor Charles IV in 1355, the town wall with the Hersbrucker Tor and the Nürnberger Tor may also have been built.
The Hersbrucker Tor around 1476. Remnants of the city wall that are not accessible to the public are located in the Spitalhof.

The Hersbrucker Tor is located on the upper market square. During the night of lights it was adorned with a red velvet curtain and colorful lighting in the archway created interesting double shadows for the people passing through.
