The Sorgenteich, which gives the name and area of the FFH areas “Sorgenteich” and “Sorgenteich addition”, belongs to the catchment area of the Schwarzen Elster and the Ruhlander Schwarzwasser.
The area is of outstanding importance for the occurrence of Atlantic wet heather and pioneer plant communities, which occur on the open and sandy wet soils of the pond area. The Sorgenteich has been designated as a nature reserve since 1981.
