The grass runway in Jasenica is no longer up-to-date for the jets that were manufactured in the aircraft factory next door or come from abroad. For this reason, the previous alternative runway in Ortijes is being expanded. First, the taxiway is paved and the necessary infrastructure is built. At the end of the 1960s, the military airfield was expanded to include an underground aircraft hangar, which was built under a hill to the northeast of the airport.
