At the end of the 19th century, the old Coswig village church had become too small for the population, which had grown to 4,700 people. The new Peter-Pauls-Kirche was built by the Dresden church architect Woldemar Kandler (1866-1929) mainly in the Neo-Renaissance style and consecrated on November 9, 1903.
