Frauentorturm, Nuremberg
The impressive tower in its current form was probably built at the end of the 14th century. The structure once guarded the most vulnerable area on the southeast side of the city wall. The associated Frauentor (Women's Gate) provided access to the city toward Regensburg and other southeastern towns. Since payments to the gatekeeper are documented from 1386 onward, this structure must have been completed by this time at the latest.
