Obviously no charge for walking over it. The bridge was built 1974-77 replacing the floating bridges. Some good views over the river Itchen.

Cykling
This need not be anywhere as challenging as it looks. Start relaxed, stay at an initial rate that appears far too easy l, ride steadily and you’ll crest within your limits. Push too early and you’ll be walking. Worst thing is the narrowness of the designated Cycle Lane if you’re wobbling. Instead, ride the pavement considerately of pedestrians and you’ll have a more relaxed ascent. Once you’re confident the bike lane is fine.
