Between 1200 and 1500, noble gentlemen built the first fortified castle house here in Eulenbroich, which probably means “swampland surrounded on three sides by water”.
A small branch of the river feeds the pond and the moats that protect the former knight's seat.
Through the gate opening you can look across the castle courtyard to the elegant two-story manor house. Behind the house, where there was once an English landscape garden, there is now a dreamy meadow landscape with duck ponds.

The keystone of the archway shows the coat of arms of the builder Johann Werner Freiherr von Francken. The gatehouse is practically the landmark of the town of Rösrath. It appears as a logo on city government letterheads and also on the city's website.
