SANCTUARY OF SANT'ORONZO
Ostuni
The sanctuary of Sant'Oronzo is located on Mount Morrone near Ostuni. Already in the sixteenth century, in 1567, an older church with the same title was attested on the same site, built over a small natural cavity believed to be the saint's refuge. The sanctuary was built on an area made available by the Palmieri family between 1656 and 1657, at the expense of the people of Ostuni who thus wanted to thank the saint for having saved Ostuni and Salento from the contagion of the plague with his intercession. then exploded in Naples.
