Nordic walking

An inlet is a narrow bay that extends significantly further into the land than it is wide. A distinction is made between estuaries and rias, which are formed in various ways from a river mouth; firths and fjords, which were carved out by glacial tongues of various kinds; and inlets of other origins, such as the Schlei. In English-speaking areas, such inlets often have the word inlet in their name.

In addition, the word inlet is also used – analogous to river inlet – for an elongated strait that separates an island from the mainland or another island.
