Talmont-sur-Gironde is named one of the most beautiful villages in France, with good reason

15 km south of Royan, on a rocky promontory overlooking the Gironde estuary, Talmont has kept its original plan of a country house, built in 1284 by Edward I of Aquitaine. Dominating the village, the magnificent Sainte-Radegonde church, symbol of the Poitou-Charentes region, is still fortified with ramparts. In the village, houses with white facades and blue shutters are revealed behind hollyhocks.

The small town is one of the most beautiful cities in France and is very picturesque with narrow streets and small colorful houses with many flowers in front. The place is very touristy with many restaurants and handicraft shops. Nearby (Bazarn) Gallo-Roman excavation.
The Romanesque church stands on a steep bank rock on the Gironde as a landmark of the place. On Steilfer trail goes around the village and also north through the Morais to Meschers (is rebuilt as a bike path). Located on the bike route 4 and 80 along the Gironde.
