    The building was erected in 1952 in place of the old, destroyed Gothic hall church.
    The first church in Dorsten was founded in the 11th century by the Xanten monastery, which until 1721 also had the right to occupy the pastoral position. At first the church (ngemeinde) belonged to the Archdiocese of Cologne, and only from 1821 to the Diocese of Münster.
