During the Kapp Putsch in 1920, Zernsdorf workers also took part in the strike against the attempted coup. Soldiers from an infantry battalion arrested several workers. On March 23, 1920, six of them were to be shot with a machine gun, which the mayor of Zernsdorf, Robert Paulick, and the doctor, Dr. Ernst Geyer prevented by courageous intervention. The memorial stone erected in 1953 commemorates this, albeit with a historical falsification typical of socialism - the fact that the workers were rescued by bourgeoisie did not fit into the GDR's historical image.
