The creation of the column dates back to the year 1700 as a votive building on the occasion of the end of the Great Turkish War and the associated, final defense against the danger that emanated from the campaigns of the Ottoman Empire for Central Europe.
The story of the Marian Column is related to the Hungarian noble family Batthyány, who resided in the Batthyány Castle in Pinkafeld. The noble family had the column renovated several times in the 19th century.
