The Seno della Purità is the beach in the historic center of Gallipoli near the cathedral of Sant'Agata, made up of fine golden sand and a transparent blue sea. The name derives from a legend that tells of the discovery of the breast of the Virgin Sant'Agata right in this place. If you pass by in the evening, stop and admire the panorama illuminated by the lights of the castle and the port.

It's the beautiful urban beach of Gallipoli, a crescent of white sand just below the ramparts of the ancient city. Among the curiosities, it's said that since the second half of the nineteenth century, was developed the practice of equipping the beach with mobile wooden structures, changing rooms and verandas. Stilt houses were fixed into the water with small ladders, which allowed easier and privileged entry into the water. Their use continued until the 1960s.

Nice old town well worth a visit. Good opportunities to eat comfortably on the city wall with a view of the sea. Outside the season you won't be kicked dead by tourists either.
