The Comenius School in Salzwedel is housed in a striking Art Nouveau building, built between 1907 and 1911. Originally conceived as a higher agricultural school, it was one of the most well-attended agricultural schools in Prussia at the time. In the late 1930s, the school was converted into a secondary school for boys and later a polytechnic secondary school. In 1950, it received its current name in honor of the pedagogue Johann Amos Comenius. Today, the building serves as a secondary school, and its striking tower silhouette makes it a prominent landmark in the Salzwedel cityscape.
