This well-preserved head is said to belong to the sphinx in the Kasta grave, the largest grave complex in Greece. There was a longer suspicion that it was the grave of Alexander the Great. This has not yet been confirmed.
The restoration work should actually have been completed. The site is closed in the MOment.
