The Bothkamper See lies in the moraine area of the Upper Eider and is part of the headwaters of the Eider. The bathing area in Kirchbarkau has very good water quality. The Hochfelder See drains into the Bothkamper See via a ditch.

The Bothkamper See is almost 160 hectares in size and only a small one
Water depth (up to 4m).
It is 3 km long and up to 1 km wide. The shore is
often stony, some islands, with bushes and surrounded by thatch, protrude from the water. The Eider is the largest tributary.
To the north of the lake are the villages of Klein Barkau and Kirchbarkau. On the eastern side is the large estate of the Bothkamp estate. Another community is Bissee.
