The tow trade came to an end with the advent of machine-powered ships and tugboats. Until the 1980s, entering the former towpaths was only permitted at your own risk. They are still subject to the administration of the water and shipping authorities.

Nice gravel road along the Zonser Grind. In the past, ships were pulled upstream here by humans and animals. Now you can wonderfully enjoy nature on this path without cars with the gravel bike (racing bike not recommended) along the Rhine and Grind. At the top of the grind you can stop off at the Pitt-Jupp restaurant, combine the stop with a stay in beautiful Zons or take the ferry there.
