This impressive deposit site has a rich history dating back to the 15th century. Knight Onno van Ewsum built the gun tower that is still present. Over time, the deposit grew into one of the most beautiful in the Ommelanden. Much of it was lost, but the farm with barn is reminiscent of days gone by, as does the coach house in which our attractive holiday apartment is located. Go back in time and stay on a unique estate.

Former security deposit at Middelstum. Only the turret from 1472 and one of the treasure houses remain of the deposit. The deposit is seen as the ancestral seat of the Van Ewsum family, but this is uncertain. Descendants Wigbold later had the borg Nienoord built.

The keep of Ewsum
The round gun tower of Ewsum Castle near Middelstum was built in 1472 by knight Onno van Ewsum. With its thick walls and loopholes, it offered protection during a time of war and the rise of firearms. This is the most important remaining example of the once impressive castle; the rest was demolished in the 19th century. Today, the tower is part of the historic castle grounds, along with gardens and heritage belonging to Het Groninger Landschap (The Groningen Landscape).
