The Agora cultural center in the buildings of the former Ickern I / II mine was founded in 1982 as the center of the Greek community of Castrop-Rauxel e.V. Since 2018, it has been the regional office of the ev. Adult Education Center Westphalia and Lippe e.V. agora-kulturzentrum.de/index.php/geschichte

On the site of the former Ickern I / II colliery, the Greek municipality of Castrop-Rauxel has created the Agora cultural center and an entire amphitheater. And thus a unique place for cultural encounters and exchanges.
For the people who used to come to Germany as “guest workers”, this was a way to maintain their cultural identity, but also to convey it to others. Guests became fellow citizens and care and coexistence became exchange and togetherness. So often happened here in the Ruhr area.
