The city gate (also called Karlstor) built by the citizens of Neckargemünd in honor of Elector Karl-Theodor was completed in 1788. It was designed by Hofkammerrat Friedrich Christoph Dyckerhoff (1751-1834) and is decorated with amphorae and coats of arms. The translation of the Latin inscription reads: "The gate was not built for the safety of the city, but for the glory of Elector Karl-Theodor von der Pfalz, sacred to the Palatinate as well as to foreigners, it will last for years."
