Schloss Maurach is a Baroque-style building complex located below the pilgrimage church of Birnau, directly on the shores of Lake Constance near Uhldingen-Mühlhofen. Through the courtyard of the castle ran until about 1950, the federal highway 31. [1] The term "castle" is misleading, because it is not a noble residence, but to utility buildings (stables) of the former imperial Abbey of Salem.

Castle Maurach is actually the estate of the monastery Salem and not a former noble residence. The monks bought the farm from Einsiedel Abbey in 1155 and rebuilt it after 1722 to the present complex of buildings. The manor also served as a landing stage and the abbots of the monastery Salem as a summer residence.
Maurach Castle has been owned by the Cistercian Abbey of Wettingen-Mehrerau since 1919 and is now leased to Landeskreditbank BW. For this reason, no visit is possible.
