sited in East Kent, Richborough is the cradle of life for Roman Britain. The Romans started their conquest by landing here in AD 43, and later created a thriving trading hub at the entrance to Roman Britain. In later times the army returned and built a powerful coastal 'Saxon Shore' fort, whose towering walls and formidable ditches strategically defended the port.

Impressive roman fort that is well-maintained by English Heritage. The dual track gravel repute that circles the site is ideal for bike touring and all levels of riding. Makes for an interesting way to see the fort from the outside.

Impressive remains of a Roman fort, there is a beautiful Church nearby also that has an open porch so if you get stuck in serious rain as we did that is a safe port of call!
