Cykling

The church in the old heart of Scharnebeck has many memories of the past as a Cistercian monastery.

The old monastery stalls with their carvings are particularly impressive: Here Jonah is devoured by the dragon; the pelican feeds the young with his heart's blood, and the ostrich devours one iron after the other. Here we encounter beliefs from past centuries that move hearts in their simplicity.

Today the church is a parish church and invites to various forms of worship and devotionals.

Cykling

On 19 January 1253 Cistercian monks of Steinbeck moved to Bispingen their monastery to Scharnebeck. At its new location in the Elbmarsch, the monastery quickly reached a high flowering and great influence. Around 1319 the construction of the monastery church began. 1376, the three-nave hall church was finally completed. At that time it was 57 m long and 41 m wide in the crossing. The blueprint was based on the self-confidence of the Order due to the dimensions of the Verden Cathedral, whose floor plan was adopted with a deviation in the choir area.

A pretty, former Cistercian monastery. The monastery has existed here in Scharnebeck since 1253. In 1531 the monastery was dissolved by the Reformation.
