I lived in the area for a long time, but it wasn't until today that I finally found my way to the castle.
Very impressive and in very good shape.

Alzenau Castle, located high above the Kahlaue, is Alzenau's landmark, visible from afar. It was built in the first half of the 15th century and was for a long time an administrative seat for the electors of Mainz. The complex circumscribes an oval, which is divided into a large walled forecourt and the inner castle with the castle courtyard and palace. The forecourt was the so-called economic courtyard before the building of the district court found its place here.
