I was lucky enough to get into a sheep herd crossing. What an experience :-) Nevertheless, I can recommend the bridge, because it takes you to the mouth of the Wupper - please do, you will like it.
The saying about the Wupper actually only applies to the Judicial Island directly in Wuppertal. At least that's where the saying comes from with the highest probability.
