The impression arises that at the end of the 19th century it was considered good form for Chemnitz city councilors to give their city a present. In 1890, City Councilor Fürchtegott Moritz Albert Voigt followed the example given by his predecessor, City Councilor Clauss, and gave the city a piece of land immediately adjacent to the Bürgergarten and, around 1897, his widow Rosa Voigt another plot of land.
In the course of regulating the Chemnitz River, the former loop of the river was included in the system and transformed into a pond.
