Vandring
In 1603, the horse trough was built under the supervision of Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach on what is now Herbert von Karajan Square. Its original purpose was to clean the prince-archbishop's parade horses. The statue of the "horse tamers" and unique horse frescoes on the rear wall of the horse trough still recall the customs of the time.

The Pferdeschwemmen as own plants originated near large stables. In summer, heated horses were cooled. At the time of the prince archbishops these were made increasingly splendid, because the possession of noble horses was a status symbol, which one also wanted to present accordingly.
