    This magnificent abbey on the banks of the Gartempe is a national treasure. More than 400m2 of ceiling are covered with frescoes, painted in the 11th and 12th centuries making it a picture book of biblical scenes located 17 meters above the ground.
    André Malraux, who was Minister of Culture at the time of General de Gaulle, had nicknamed him "the Roman Sixtine".
    The Abbey of Saint Savin has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1983 for its outstanding universal value.
    It is also positioned as the starting point of the Valley of the frescoes.
