Frederiksoord is a small village in the municipality of Westerveld with a special past. This is where the first agricultural colony (also called Colonies of Benevolence) was founded in 1818 to combat poverty in the Netherlands.
52 small farms were built to accommodate poor city dwellers, where they could work and receive education and shelter.
Now there is a hotel, a museum with a café and a sweet shop in this interesting place.
