Vandring
The lake is easily accessible via marked hiking trails in the vicinity of Sourbrodt and Küchelscheid. It owes its name to the characteristically dark brown water of the Venn, the color of which is due to tributaries rich in peat and humic substances, such as the Schwarzbach stream.

Vandring
The lake is fed by the Schwarzbach, which rises in the moor, and especially when the sky is overcast it actually looks black and eerie.
