The National Association of the Mayor of Godesberg, especially Dr. Brandis, initiated the construction of this Bismarck Tower on July 9, 1899.
This Bismarck Tower was designed by government architect Ernst Spindler (Erdmann & Spindler from Berlin). He also took over the construction management from the end of 1901. The work was carried out at cost price by the Theodor Wilhelm Düren company from Godesberg.

As in so many other cities at that time, efforts were made in Bonn to erect a monument to Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (1815 to 1898, first Chancellor of the German Reich since 1871, previously Prime Minister of Prussia and Chancellor of the North German Confederation). . The tower named after him is now part of the Rheinaue amusement park, a former Federal Horticultural Show site.
