The Hessigheim barrage is a river causeway and consists of a double lock on the right bank, a three-field weir and a power plant on the left bank. The 50 and 60 year old floodgates have reached their useful life in a few years. In the event of a damage, a gate of the left-hand chamber was irreparably damaged in 2010, so that since then the left-hand chamber has been out of operation and a lock has been made only via the right-hand chamber.
