Caldaro is well known for its wines and is beautifully situated near Lake Caldaro. There are many cycling and hiking trails as well as hotels and restaurants. Caldaro is the stage destination of the Tour Transalp and thus well known among racing cyclists.

Caldaro sulla Strada del Vino (Kaltern an der Weinstraße in German) is a municipality of around 8,000 inhabitants located in the Oltradige region. Since medieval times it was only called Caldaro, then in 1964 the phrase "on the Wine Route" was added as in other municipalities in Alto Adige. It stands at the foot of the Mendola and the lake of the same name is particularly famous among those who practice sailing and surfing.
