Stretching 23 miles (37km) south-west from the city of Inverness, Loch Ness is the second-largest Scottish loch by surface area after Loch Lomond and the largest in Britain by volume due to its great depth. Famous for the legend of 'Nessie' the Loch Ness Monster, it's a popular destination yet many parts of its extensive coastline, particularly along the south-eastern bank, still feel remote and wild.
