The castle and the town were the workplaces of important institutions such as the first German language association. The palace is of cultural and historical importance as the place of activity of the court music director Johann Sebastian Bach in the years 1717 to 1723.
The buildings are now used for musical, historical and cultural purposes. Here are the city's museums, the Bach memorial, the city archive, the music school, a concert hall and a modern event center.
