Monarch Friedrich Wilhelm III. acquired the Paretz estate in 1797 for 85,000 Prussian thalers and commissioned the Berlin architect David Gilly to build a sleek, stylistically simple, early classicist country palace. The interior of the palace was completed as early as 1797/1798, a demonstration of early Berlin-style classicism.
Since the successful reconstruction up to 2001, you can experience the ensemble, which is now under monument protection, in its classic form - including the spectacularly painted and printed paper wallpapers in the royal living rooms.
