The palace of Abohimanga ("Blue Hill") is located about 30 km northeast of the capital Tana. In 2001, UNESCO designated this cultural monument a World Heritage Site.
It was once the holy city of the Merina dynasty. Here Adrianampoinimerina, the mightiest of Merina princes, resided in a rosewood house before relocating his seat of government to Antananarivo.

For those interested in history, a visit to the King's Hill of Ambohimanga in the Antananarivo Avaradrano province should be worth considering. Until 1794 it was the seat of the kings of Merina and until 1897 the burial place of the kings of Madagascar. Since 2001 it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
