Reaching an elevation of 1,139 meters (3,737 feet) above sea level, this pass serves as a vital link in the "three passes" depression that traverses the massif, connecting the charming village of Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse to the south with Saint-Pierre d'Entremont to the north. Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont side, magnificent view of the North Chartreuse.

    Relatively short climb from Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse.

Climbing the col from Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont, the north side, there are 2 alternative roads: the main road D512, which I would recommend for the descent, and a smaller, more quiet road: the D102B, leaving Saint-Pierre-d'Entrepont signposted as "Le Planolet". Both roads join eachother just under the top of the col. I would recommend the D102B for climbing: it offers much nicer views of the entire valley from the Col du Cucheron till the Col de la Cluse.

The 2 slopes are quite different: on one side the ski area, on the other mountain pastures.
