Sontheim was first mentioned in documents in 838 and belonged to the Ottobeuren Reichsstift. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. As part of the administrative reforms in Bavaria was born with the community edict of 1818, the community Sontheim.
