The Blumenthaler Aue originates in Brundorf in the Osterholz district and flows into the Weser in Bremen-Nord. The water level is subject to strong fluctuations: in the summer months, the upper reaches periodically dry out completely. Because of its near-natural areas, the Blumenthaler Aue is one of the valuable Geest streams in the Osterholz district.
