The church was first mentioned in 1144. The high altar contains the miraculous image carved around 1500, a life-size carved figure of Maria, who hands the child an apple. The heads in particular were heavily revised in the 19th century.

The pilgrimage to the miraculous image existed before 1635 and was very important in the 17th century. It went out in 1803, but was revived in 1838.
Characteristic are the Romanesque foundations and the distinctive early baroque church tower with a typical double cross, which can also be seen in this form on the towers in the Scheyrer monastery.
