Children especially love the fountain with the horses, created by the Bremen sculptor Claus Homfeld in 1985. The horses are a reminder of the horse trade that used to take place in the square. Not only is the horse trader's jacket perched on the pole amusing, but so is the hand pump, which allows you to make water flow into the fountain with a quick press of a switch.
