Cykling

One of the many castles in the Rhineland. The original castle dates from the twelfth century before it was converted into the present castle in the 17th century. If you take a break here, you should definitely eat an ice burger at Café Nelles across the street!

The Lords de Halechtre (Knights of Alfter) were first mentioned in 1117, and the Hereditary Marshal's Office of Kurköln was associated with Alfter Castle from 1188. The von Metternich family (with the lion's coat of arms) at the Moated Castle Metternich also emerged from the von Alfter knightly dynasty, and should not be confused with the more well-known von Metternich family (with the shell coat of arms), which is also based in Metternich.

The castle from the 12th century. was destroyed in 1468.
The successor building burned at the beginning of the 16th century. set up and rebuilt.
In 1583 the village and the (3rd) castle were invaded and destroyed.
The present building was built in 1721 by Count Wilhelm von Salm.
Today in the possession of Simeon count Wolff Metternich to the canal.
Will u.a. used by a Waldorf kindergarten.
Very nice facility!
