"Bone breaker curve"
for the top bend in Brockenstrasse dates back to the time of horse-drawn vehicles. Before the construction of the Brockenstrasse (which has existed since at least 1849), the road, starting from today's curve with a refuge, led very steeply to the Brocken plateau. Due to the difficult terrain, the horses often broke their legs here.
Hence the name "Bone Breaker Path".
The "new" Brockenstrasse, with the construction of which the difficult route was avoided, has existed since the 1950s.
The route on the Bone Crusher Trail has not existed since the 1950s.
