According to the myth, Akámas, son of Theseus and lover of Aphrodite, founded the city. According to Strabon it was around 600 BC. Chr built on the advice of the Athenian Solon and named after the wise man. It was one of the city kingdoms.
The area is known for its copper mines, in which numerous Jews worked around the year zero.
A temple of Aphrodite originally stood here. This was transformed into a basilica with mosaics still intact today. Particularly noteworthy is the full circle with two crosses offset by 45 degrees, a symbol for Christians (Ichthys).

Beautiful walk with some fantastic views, the cafe on the seafront does great food with reasonable prices
