Vandring
The Korokan was a huge host institution in Hakata for diplomatic visitors from mainland Asia. It was in operation in ancient times, was discovered recently and has been excavated since then.
The rulers on the Japanese islands have had diplomatic trade relations with rulers in China and the countries of today's Korea since the beginning of written history. Hakata was an obvious arrival and departure point, since the route from there to Iki, further to Tsushima and then to the southern tip of Korea, which was considered the shortest and safest route.
Entry to the museum is free.
