The town of Chaitén still shows the scars of the volcanic eruptions of the Chaitén volcano. In 2008 and 2011, this volcano caused quite a bit of damage. As you go to the edge of the Rio Blanco, you will see some houses in poor condition. Chaitén offers some accommodation options. This turns out to be very useful in case of rain.

Chaitén is a town that was evacuated and destroyed by a 2008 volcanic eruption. It has since been resettled and offers hotels, hospedajes and restaurants for bikers along the Carretera Austral.

Chaitén was put to the test by the eruption of the volcano of the same name between 2008 and 2011. During that period several people were evacuated. Chaitén has now returned to being an important center on the Carretera Austral.
