After several devastating flooding floods was about 20 years ago, built here along the old city wall, over more than half a kilometer on the Main Front, a massive flood protection wall about 3 meters high. The complex flood protection was completed by lockable steel gates, a drainage / pumping system and many other measures.

The protection system extends over a length of around 1,100 meters and is divided into three basic sections: 550 meters of city wall, 350 meters of free-standing flood protection wall, 200 meters of landfill. The protective height is up to four meters.

Flood protection, completed in 2001, not only helps protect people, but also preserves the historic ensemble. It made it possible for new generations to resettle and to bring the city back to life.
