The old Großenfalz was "built on ore", especially at lower altitudes, so that it eventually had to give way to mining. With the decision of the Maxhütte to mine the iron ore fields directly below the village of Grossenfalz, the fate of Alt-Großenfalz was sealed in the 1950s. In 1964, the Grossenfalzer miners and farmers moved to their newly built estate. Today, a beautiful biotope has formed itself, where rare animals found an untouched nature. The area has since been declared a nature reserve.
